How to Switch Used Cooking Oil Collection Companies

Plan a restaurant oil-provider change around notice terms, equipment ownership, capacity and first pickup.

The short answer

To switch oil collection providers, read the current agreement and notice terms, identify who owns the container, document service problems, and line up the new equipment and collection plan before the old one ends. Confirm the first pickup and keep enough safe storage capacity through the transition.

Start with the current agreement

Find the signed contract and any later changes. Check the end date, required notice method, equipment ownership, removal obligations, unpaid amounts and access commitments. A restaurant may own a container, lease it or use provider-owned equipment; the answer affects how to plan the handoff. Put key dates on a calendar and keep a copy of any notice you send.

Do not assume a new provider can use or remove the old provider’s container. Ask each party to confirm its responsibility in writing. If the agreement is unclear, resolve that before promising the same placement point to two crews.

Record the service problem you want solved

If missed collections prompted the change, create a short log with dates, container condition, remaining space and the messages sent to the current provider. Include gate or loading changes that may have contributed. This helps the incoming provider design a better route and helps you distinguish a schedule problem from an access problem.

A failed visit can still require immediate attention to capacity during the transition. Contact your current service team using its agreed process and preserve the record; changing companies does not create an instant collection slot. For Green Nature customers, 24/7 support can discuss a missed pickup, while service timing must be confirmed.

  • List missed or disputed pickup dates.
  • Photograph container condition when useful.
  • Record access instructions and changes.
  • Estimate oil still in storage.

Give the incoming provider complete site details

Share the exact restaurant address, expected oil output, fryer count, current container type, approved service point, access hours and target transition date. Ask for a proposed container and collection cadence that can handle the oil generated while equipment is exchanged. If the restaurant group has several sites, review each address separately even when negotiating common terms.

Compare written proposals across collection timing, equipment responsibility, pump-out records, qualifying payment terms and cancellation rules. Do not rely on a verbal payment number or a promise that all locations will receive identical equipment. Ask who will be the operational contact on the first service day.

Close the gap between last and first pickup

Confirm the old provider’s final visit and equipment removal plan, then confirm the new container placement and first pickup arrangement. Tell kitchen staff which container is active on each date. If the old container leaves before the new one is ready, pause and solve the storage gap with the providers; do not send fryer oil to a drain or an unrelated waste bin.

After the first Green Nature pump-out, check that the statement names the right site and quantity. Update access instructions quickly if the first visit exposed a gate, parking or contact issue. Keep the old and new statements separate so the month’s quantities and any qualifying payments can be reconciled accurately.

  • Confirm the final old-provider collection and who removes its equipment.
  • Confirm property approval and arrival of the new container.
  • Give both crews the correct access window and on-site contact.
  • Tell every shift which container is active until the first new pickup is recorded.

Common questions

Can Green Nature take the old provider’s container?

Container ownership and removal follow the current agreement. Confirm responsibilities with both providers before the handoff.

What if the old pickup fails during the switch?

Document the miss and remaining capacity, contact the responsible provider, and coordinate an updated transition plan.

Should I cancel before getting a new plan?

Review notice obligations early, then coordinate dates and equipment so the kitchen has a confirmed place for used oil throughout the change.
